Protection against negative energy prices
When negative prices appear on the Polish Power Exchange, the EMS blocks exports to the grid and directs surpluses to storage, preventing financial losses.
Price arbitrage
The system plans charging during the lowest-price hours, for example at the midday peak of PV production, and sells energy at times of highest demand and highest rates.
Ancillary services and the capacity market
Participation in the balancing market, frequency regulation (FCR, aFRR) and DSR programmes are additional, stable revenue streams from the same installation.
Smoothing exported power
Storage smooths sudden swings in generation caused, for example, by a sudden cloud cover.
No more inverter shutdowns
Surplus above the connection limit goes safely into the batteries instead of being lost for good.

Does adding storage require a change to the grid connection conditions?
That has to be checked for the specific installation – it depends on the capacity of the storage and how it is connected. Some configurations fit within the existing conditions, others require an application to the operator.
What happens when energy prices go negative?
The system stops exporting to the grid and directs the surplus to storage. That is the difference between a loss and setting energy aside for hours when it is worth something.
Can one battery do arbitrage and ancillary services at the same time?
Yes, but not with the same capacity at the same moment. Part of the asset is reserved for the contracted service and the rest is traded on the market – the split is set when planning how the storage will operate.
How does storage affect the lifetime of the installation?
Every cycle wears the cells, so the operating strategy accounts for the cost of that wear. Arbitrage that does not cover degradation is not a profit, only a cost moved in time.
