What happens when communication with an installation is lost?
The asset switches to a safe mode stored locally in the controller, and the centre receives an alarm about the lost connection. An installation without communication is treated as unavailable for contracted services, so that no capacity is promised to the operator that does not exist.
Does the centre take over responsibility for operating the equipment?
The range of commands that can be issued remotely, and the limits within which a device will carry them out, is agreed during deployment. On-site protection always takes precedence over external commands.
Why a separate centre if there is local automation?
Local automation protects a single site. The centre looks at the whole portfolio: it sees that two installations are deviating from the forecast and decides what to replace the missing capacity with, before the service fails.
